The mission of the Amenities Committee is to reach out to our members and their families who are experiencing illness or loss as soon as we become aware of them. We realize that these are private moments, and sharing them, particularly with some folks that we might not even know, may be the very last thing on our minds. Whether or not you can do so yourself, or even permit others to contact us on your behalf, please know that the LWAAAC community stands by to offer you hope and comfort.
The committee meets once a month.
The Budget Committee is comprised of the treasurer as chairperson, financial secretary, and three members appointed by the president.
The committee adheres to the guidelines outlined in the manual, “Policies and Procedures for Standing Committees” adopted by the board. The committee functions to allocate funds on an annual basis to support the activities of the organization. The committee also sets aside funds for subsidizing activities.
Chair: Eleanor Thompson
The Community Services Committee initiates, plans, and implements projects and activities to support a specific need of a predetermined community group in the Montgomery County area. This requires working with local schools and community support organizations to assist in achieving their goals.
The Community Services Committee may also collaborate and partner with other Leisure World clubs to advance their project goals.
The Community Services Committee usually meets once a month.
The Membership Committee enrolls new and renewed members into the LWAAAC organization and maintains the membership roster and database. A monthly membership roster is distributed to the LWAAAC board. The committee responds to requests from Leisure World and non-Leisure World residents for membership information. The committee also distributes the LWAAAC president’s welcome letter to new and renewed members.
As a new initiative in 2023, the committee instituted “New Member Orientation.” The first session was conducted in November 2023, and ongoing sessions are planned to begin in September 2024. The committee also supports the LWAAAC Fall Membership Meeting.
The Committee meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month.
Leisure World residents and nonresidents wishing to join LWAAAC should complete the New Member Registration form and submit to the committee.
The Programs Committee initiates, plans and implements all recreational, social, educational, arts, and entertainment activities for LWAAAC. This includes the annual Kwanzaa, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Juneteenth Celebrations, the year end LWAAAC Gala, as well as other culturally relevant events throughout the year.
Additionally, the Programs Committee carries out the LWAAAC Board's annual Fall Membership Meeting program. The Committee also partners with Leisure World for selected community events.
The Programs Committee does not have a regular schedule to meet. However, a one to two hour meeting is scheduled prior to major events to discuss details and/or anticipated assistance.
LWAAAC's Health and Wellness programs provide our community with options to improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being by providing resources, and education aimed at preventing illness and injury.
The Public Relations Committee publishes substantive written material about LWAAAC that serves both to inform the membership and provide documents suitable for archiving. This includes writing and submitting articles for the Leisure World of Maryland News, preparing and distributing the organization's newsletter, The Drumbeat, and maintaining organizational displays in the Leisure World showcase.
The Public Relations Committee generates profiles of LWAAAC members that are emailed and published on this website at Meet Your Neighbor. These profiles will alternately honor long-standing, steadfast members and introduce new folks to the LWAAAC community. The committee meets on an as-needed basis.
The Technology Committee provides short-and long-range planning for all technology initiatives: innovation, vision, goals, program objectives/strategies/activities, infrastructure, evaluation, and budgeting. The committee collaborates with all standing committees in support of their technical objectives. The committee maintains the organization's websites, event calendars, email accounts, and cloud storage.
The Committee meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month.
The LWAAAC Drum Circle will host this spirited program that will educate, enlighten, and inspire as we embrace the seven principles of life filled with words of intention, movement, and music.
